Its hard to believe that Eland and lion roamed in grassland just over 120 years ago in central Johannesburg . By 1910 it was the youngest and most fashionable city in the whole of the British Empire! Interestingly, also the oldest, with human origins going back to 3.5 million years ago.<\/p>\n
Gerald walked us through the rise and fall of Johannesburg, we explored grand old buildings like the Rand Club, RandLords, the hottest retail space in Africa, the legal offices of Mandela and Oliver Tambo. We walked, and we caught the Rea Vaya bus (so easy and efficient to get from one end of the city to the other for less than R5) a first for me! And it wont be the last!<\/p>\n
