It was raining cats and dogs in Johannesburg last week while Julie from Zimbabwe was staying with us – horrible weather to drive in, and especially in the Fourways area. But Julie needed to collect dog food to take back to Zimbabwe, and a runner was coming to collect it that afternoon – Zimbabweans use “runners”to transport their heavy stuff back home. I had a thought… why not get an Uber to collect the dog food from the Veterinary Hospital in Fourways and bring it to Amanzi?<\/p>\n

Would it work? A bit of juggling, phoning the driver as he neared the Vet to ask him to collect a parcel not a person, and asking the receptionist to pass the parcel to Andrew rather than Julie. We could track exactly where the parcel was, and exactly what time it would arrive. Not only time saved, but the hassle of driving in traffic in the rain. A win win situation – Andrew also delighted with his tip. Most people understand that the taxi drivers get the short end of the stick money wise, so tip generously.<\/p>\n

Uber continues to be used by so many guests’at Amanzi Guest House – its safe, cost-effective, and the taxis are always only minutes away. For a short trip to Johannesburg, its not worth hiring a car – rather use hassle free transport, as these guests did.

Uber Eats is also a great app, which we recommend to our guests – there are a wide choice of restaurants to choose from. The app tracks the making of the food, departure of the taxi,and an accurate estimate of when their meal will arrive.
